چکیده

The objective of the present work was to determine the effect of NH4NO3 toxicity on nitrogen metabolism in Phaseolus vulgaris L. cv. Strike. The NH4NO3 was applied to the nutrient solution at 6 (N1), 12 (N2), 18 (N3), and 24 mM (N4). The availability of NO3− and NH4+ in the roots and leaves of green bean proved to be influenced by the different NH4NO3 treatments, being the NO3− and NH4+ translocated towards the aerial part of the plant and subsequently assimilated in the leaves. The most important enzymatic activities within nitrogen metabolism, such as nitrate reductase, nitrite reductase, glutamine synthetase and glutamate synthase were affected negatively by the highest NH4NO3 rate (N4). Finally, in our experiment, possibly the high accumulation of NO3−, and principally of NH4+, in both organs due to the application of high NH4NO3 rates could be the direct causes of the reduced biomass production in plants and of the reduction of N assimilation process in roots and leaves, indicating that green bean plants are highly sensitive to high N levels. © 2003 Elsevier B.V. Proline metabolism in response to highest nitrogen dosages in green bean plants (Phaseolus vulgaris L. cv. Strike)

The objective of the present work was to determine what impact extremely high nitrogen dosages would have on proline metabolism in order to use this amino acid as a bioindicator of N status of green bean plants (Phaseolus vulgaris L. cv. Strike). In this effort, we identified the most favourable pathway of proline synthesis under our experimental conditions. The N was applied to the nutrient so...

The effects of Co2+ and Zn2+ on the contents of protein, abscisic acid, proline and chlorophyll in bean (Phaseolus vulgaris cv. Strike) seedlings.

17-day-old bean plants (Phaseolus vulgaris cv. Strike) were used to analyze the effects of Co2+ and Zn2+ on the time course of proline, total protein, chlorophyll and abscisic acid (ABA) levels in leaves. Controls, Co2+ and Zn2+-treated plants were grown for 8 days in Hoagland solution. Samples were taken at 2 day intervals. Proline, chlorophyll (a+b) and total protein contents of 17 day old pr...

Yield and biosynthesis of nitrogenous compounds in fruits of green bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L cv Strike) in response to increasing N fertilisation

The objective of the present work was to determine the effect of different dosages of N on the biosynthesis of organic N compounds in fruits and their influence on yield in green bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L cv Strike) plants. The nitrogen was applied to the nutrient solution as NH4NO3 at 1.5 (N1), 3 (N2), 6 (N3), 12 (N4), 18 (N5) and 24 mM (N6). Treatment N3 was considered optimal for efficient ...

Effect of water stress and plant density on canopy temperature, yield components and protein concentration of red bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L. cv. Akhtar)

In order to study the effects of different irrigation regimes and plant density on yieldcomponent and protein concentration and crop water stress index (CWSI), under research fieldconditions a split plot arrangement was conducted in completely randomized block designduring two years. The first factor of variables was the effects of 4 irrigation levels 120% (I1),100% (I2), 80% (I3) and 60% (I4) ...

The effect of priming on physiological and biochemical traits of French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) under cobalt chloride stress

Extended Abstract Introduction: The germination stage ensures the durability, establishment, and final yield of plants.  The final density of plants per unit area is resulted when the planted seeds germinate fully and with adequate rate. Plants mainly undergo abiotic stresses that are a considerable constraint for agricultural production worldwide. Seed priming is one of the simplest and cheap...
